Job Summary:

The Visiting Research Associate I incumbent will assist in the research of Drs. Sohad Murrar and Rebecca Littman in the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois Chicago. This is a full-time, intermediate-level coordinator position in social psychology research on intergroup relations and attitudes. The research associate is equivalent to a lab manager or research coordinator with a 50-50 split in time working for Drs. Littman and Murrar. The research associate will be responsible for a range of tasks including overseeing ongoing and new lab projects related to social interventions aiming to reduce prejudice and intergroup conflict and promote inclusion of socially marginalized groups.

 

The research associate will be a part of a vibrant and growing community of scholars addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time, with opportunities for co-authorship, fostering one-on-one relationships with faculty and graduate students, and influencing the development of an inclusive and cooperative research lab. The research associate will also have an opportunity to be based in the heart of Chicago where the UIC campus is located.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications (minimum $40,000) with full benefits. 

Job Duties:

Lab Operations

- Organizing schedules for lab personnel and programming and supervising day-to-day lab operations

- Supervise students obtaining research experience in the lab under the direction of the PIs

- Maintaining lab website and social media presence (e.g., Twitter)

Research Operations

- Developing, designing, and conducting mixed methods research projects with an emphasis on experimental studies under the supervision of the PIs

- Organizing daily operations of research projects including scheduling and running participants and overseeing data collection for in person and online studies

- Organizing and analyzing data using R

- Conduct literature reviews and prepare written reports

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related discipline, knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures, experience with data analysis, and intermediate-level knowledge of research methods. Candidates should be highly responsible, detail-oriented, and have good people skills.

Preferred candidates will have interest and experience in intergroup relations with a focus on prejudice and conflict reduction, lab and field experiments, statistics for the behavioral sciences, and various programming languages (i.e., R, Qualtrics). Preference will be given to candidates available for a 2 year commitment (2nd year contingent on performance).
